What you can check from the ground

• Ice at the eaves or stained soffits

The National Weather Service explains that ice dams form when snow melts on a warm roof and refreezes at the colder edge, forcing water under shingles. Insulation and balanced ventilation reduce that risk; they are building-science issues, not just shingle issues.

When a repair is the wrong first move
