How Moon Roofing Guide researches roofing information

Updated:

Direct answer

This site publishes local roofing information only when it can be tied to a source. A contractor is listed only after the fields on that profile have been checked. Paid referral relationships, if they exist, are disclosed and do not secretly determine editorial rankings.

How businesses are discovered

Sources, in order:

  1. Pennsylvania Home Improvement Contractor Search, filtered to roofing and nearby counties
  2. The contractor's own website and published estimates or advertisements
  3. Moon Township and Allegheny County public records where relevant
  4. Established directories, used only to find candidates — not as proof

Community discussions and other blogs are last-resort discovery tools, never the basis for a published fact.

What we check

  • Legal business name as presented by the business or the HIC record
  • Physical location if stated by the business or a government record
  • PA HIC number, plus a direct Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General registry check only when that check has actually been completed
  • Services the business itself advertises
  • Review-platform links and counts only as of a recorded date

We do not verify workmanship, honesty, or “best” status by registration alone. The Office of Attorney General says registration is not an endorsement of competency or skill. This site will not claim a contractor is “verified” beyond the specific fields checked. Third-party reports of a registration number or expiration date are shown as corroborating evidence until a direct state-registry check is completed.

How often information is checked

Volatile facts — permit rules, registration status, phone numbers — should be re-checked at least quarterly, and sooner after a known government change. Each such fact should carry a last-verified date for that fact, not a site-wide deploy date.

Inclusion, payment, and rankings

  • The directory includes roofing contractors with documented Moon Township service evidence and selected nearby roofing businesses with relevant local operating or service-area evidence. Each profile explains why that contractor is included.
  • Inclusion is not a ranking, recommendation, or endorsement.
  • Inclusion in the directory is intended to be free.
  • Referral partners may pay for call connections.
  • Payment must not secretly determine editorial rankings or filter order.
  • We do not publish “#1 best roofer” lists without a separate, public ranking method.

See disclosures for the current commercial status of referral relationships.

Source hierarchy when facts conflict

  1. Local, state, or federal government
  2. Building-code or regulatory authority
  3. Manufacturer documentation
  4. The contractor's own primary materials for facts about itself
  5. Established third-party directories
  6. Local media
  7. Community discussions
  8. Other blogs

What we will not do

  • Invent prices, reviews, projects, or testimonials
  • Copy contractor marketing pages
  • Publish location-swapped doorway pages
  • Pretend Moon Roofing Guide is a roofing company
